The company, specialized in octopus processing, has become one of the strongest companies in Castilla y León and is positioned nationally as a reference in the sector.
The Palencia-based company Merpacífico, located on Tejedores street in the San Antolín industrial estate in the capital, closed the year with a turnover of close to 20 million euros. The company has achieved this good result in only six months since its start-up “thanks to the experience of many years of work, the commitment of our employees and the trust of our customers,” say Conrado and Manuela Merino, who have opted for Palencia to develop an ambitious business project, turning Merpacifi-co into one of the most powerful octopus processing companies in Castilla y León and a national benchmark in the sector.
Product quality, high processing capacity and quick response to customers are three of the characteristics that have driven Merpacífico’s growth.
The company from Palencia will distribute the references of the cooked octopus assortment for Carrefour Spain.
An example of how Merpacífico has become one of the strongest companies in Castilla y León and has positioned itself nationally as a reference in the sector in only six months is the important agreement it has reached with one of the most important distribution multinationals, Carrefour España.
As part of Merpacífico’s expansion in the large-scale distribution sector, the Palencia-based company will start working, from the beginning of 2024, with Carrefour Spain after reaching an important agreement to serve under the brand name El mercado del Carrefour the 6 references that make up the entire range of cooked octopus in these large supermarkets.
Undoubtedly, an endorsement of the work that Conrado and Manuela Merino have developed since Merpacífico was launched six months ago, a time in which they have also gained the trust of the people of Palencia.
The company has opened a store in the factory itself and the response from the city has exceeded all expectations. “Hundreds of sales confirm the confidence of the people of Palencia who have chosen Merpacífico’s octopus for their Christmas menu”, the facilities located in Tejedores street in the industrial park of the capital assure.
The store will be open all year round from Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Undoubtedly, a way to prove that the Merino family’s commitment to a quality product, with the best octopus, is a reality with a great future. in its six months of life. “It is essential to be present throughout the value chain to offer a product with all the guarantees,” explains Conrado Merino.
“In the fishing grounds we have our own Merpacífico employees to ensure the purchase of the best octopus, as well as refrigerators to maintain the highest product quality,” adds the Palencia businessman, who will travel to one of the most important fishing grounds in the world, Dakhla (Morocco), in the coming days to be present at the start of the fishing season.
“Those of us who manage companies have to know in detail how the sector is evolving. This is the only way to be truly competitive”, says Conrado Merino, who confirms that “the company has been fully accepted in the sector”. “We focus on the growth of our customers. Their success is also our success,” says Manuela Merino, who confirms that in these six months of the company’s existence “Merpacífico’s customers repeat and increase their orders.
IFS FOOD CERTIFICATE. The good news for Merpacífico, which closed the year with a turnover of close to 20 million euros, has been accompanied by other important news for the company from Palencia. The company recently passed a demanding examination to obtain IFSFood certification. This is a food safety standard recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFS) for auditing food manufacturing companies and focuses on food safety and quality of processed products.
“This means that the products comply with the strictest quality and safety controls”, explains Merpacífico’s management, where one of the strongest departments is, precisely, the quality department. “We attract the best professional profiles as a strategic factor. We believe that quality goes far beyond compliance with requirements and standards, because it serves to guarantee greater safety and reduce risks. It is undoubtedly the key to strengthening our customers’ confidence in our products and, therefore, in the company,” say Conrado and Manuela Merino.
In this sense, the company is committed to constant evolution and updating in order to continue responding to today’s markets. For this reason, they stress the importance of “control methods advancing at the same pace as product development processes”. Conrado and Manuela Merino are satisfied with the beginnings of this joint project that guarantees the stability of the family business. Merpacífico’s slogan is “An inspiring start: from a small stall in the food market to a benchmark in the seafood sector”.
